    More Shaun

At lunch we had 4 boys (my son Quint and his friends Cole, Tyler and Patrick), my daughter Kaitlin (KK), myself, Shaun and Taco.  The kids had prepared several questions to ask him.  A newspaper reporter would kill for the access we had.  Here are a few examples:

    • What was your favorite NFL game?  A:  the Minnesota game when I scored 5 TDs in the first half.  I felt like everyone was moving in slow motion and I was moving regular speed.
    • What was your least favorite game?  A:  the Green Bay playoff game when we lost in overtime.  We looked at the match-ups before the playoffs and thought we'd beat any team in the NFC playoffs.  We just did not match up well against the Packers.  Of course that's who we got.  If we could just squeak by them, we flet we would make the Super Bowl.
    • What was the best team you have ever been on?  A:  The last 2 years on the Seahawks (03 and 04) we had the best teams talent wise we've ever been on.  These were Super Bowl caliber teams.  The Green Bay game not only ended the season in 03 but agffected us into 04.  We still believe we could've been like New England with our talent -- it's that close -- the breaks went against us in Green Bay and then all last season.
    • What are the prospects for this year?  A:  We don't have the talent we had last year, so this year we'll need to play together as a team.  The schedule is tough, so 10 wins will be very difficult.  We have solid teammates on this squad and so we hope we connect well a a team.
    • What would you be doing if you weren't playing football.  A: laughs, a basketball player.  Taco breaks out in laughter and says you anin't got it!

Shaun and Taco also engaged the kids and asked them what they want to be when they grow up.  Tyler an actor; Quint a baseball playe ror businessman; Patrick a baseball player; Cole a baskeball player or inventor.  Shaun told them that was cool.

    Shaun Alexander

My family and some friends (just 6 of us) were fortunate enough to spend 4 hours with Shaun Alexander of the Seahawks just days before training camp.  Wow!  What a great dude!  I am usually pretty cynical of people saying a sports star is a role model, but he's the real deal!

He's personable, nice, genuine, interested in giving to the community and making a difference.  He's very spiritual.  He's also funny.  He's a guy you could just hang out with -- and we did! He toaught my kids about temwork, community, having God in your life, not betting it all on being a pro atlthlete but still dream.  He even le tus in on a secret that no one but one other Seahak knows -- Shaun is is going to training camp on time!  He wants a ling-term deal so he can know what city he will live in, but is not going to hurt the team and hold out of camp.

We got to meet Shaun because we bought an auction item at a Boys & Girls Club charity event last Fall.  Four hours with Shaun with 6 people.  I thought that was too good to be true -- that it would probably just be luch or something.  But it was truly a half day.

It happened on July 23, 2005.  Shaun met us a TGIF in Kirkland, rolling up in a new Range Rover.  He brought a friend, WR Taco Wallace.  Wallace was also a real great guy.  Funny as hell -- trading barbs with Shaun and cracking the kids up.  I was with my son, daughter, and 3 of my son's friends.  It would be a day they ill not soon forget -- if ever.

    More tomorrow...

    First entry

Quint had his first practice tonight.  He played well at second base, shortstop and centerfield.
